12/28/2020 NAMHSA Pandemic Pause Qualification Extension

NAMHSA To Pause Qualification of Shows, for the Duration of the Pandemic- Extension

NAMHSA To Pause Qualification of Shows, for the Duration of the Pandemic- Extension.
On 9 December 2020, the NAMHSA BOD voted (10- Yes, 0-No, 1-No Vote) to extend the pause qualifier shows in light of the global pandemic.

1. All shows with currently approved qualifications must postpone their show to maintain their qualification. Shows that do not move, even if already qualified, will lose their qualification status. A show holder who postpones their show--even if without a firm date--will not have their qualification revoked. "Date TBD" will be acceptable in the short term, provided the show will not be held during the moratorium period.
2. The BOD will re-evaluate this moratorium on or about 28 February 2021 and extend or not extend, based upon CDC and legal guidance.
3. This moratorium is in place across all NAMHSA regions. Although some regions have fewer COVID cases than others, CDC guidance continues to consider medium/large indoor, in person gatherings as high risk (https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/index.html).
4. Shows scheduled for later in 2021 are encouraged to apply for approval; however, all applications will be held by the Show Secretary until after the second moratorium period is over and the BOD has reassessed the situation.

5. Refund/Extension/Rescheduling options: Show Holders may cancel previously approved shows through February 2021 without penalties. Show-holders will need to return their cards (if issued) to receive refunds. Those who choose to reschedule, with same classlist, will receive cards or stickers for the new date, as applicable.

If you have any questions, please feel free to reach out to your regional representative or any member of the NAMHSA Board Of Directors.

08/04/2021 - NAMHSA Seeks New Recording Secretary

NAMHSA Seeks Recording Secretary

Are you interested in being involved in NAMHSA? Do you have excellent written, organizational and computer skills? Can you devote four-six hours a week to the job? Then NAMHSA wants you!

Due to circumstances beyond our control, the Recording Secretary position is now open. The NAMHSA Board of Directors thanks previous Recording Secretary volunteer Rachel Leslie for her involvement for these past months and we wish her all the best in her future hobby endeavors.
The term for the Recording Secretary is three years, beginning in August 2020 and ending in July 2023. The Recording Secretary is a non-voting Board position.

Responsibilities include:

  • Record and post the bi-monthly Minutes for Board approval promptly. Minutes can and do include general discussion, new show listings, financial reports, and monthly regional representative reports.
  • Maintain a permanent record of past Minutes.
  • Administer and record the annual Representative and Vice-Presidential elections and any special elections that may occur (such as bylaw changes or interim officer elections). This includes the collection of applicant bios and ballot creation.
  • Create and maintain the polls that the Board uses to vote on issues.
  • Maintain a spreadsheet of NAMHSA members for balloting purposes. The individual in this position will work closely with the Show and Membership Secretary and the NAN Registrar to help keep track of new members.

Required Skills:
  • Excellent Word processing and computer skills. Must be comfortable with various Internet (Facebook, Google docs, bulletin board/forums, e-mail, etc) processes.
  • Strong grammar/spelling and written communication skills.
  • Proactive - self starter and finishing of projects, ability to follow directions, awareness/following of deadlines.
The position requires utilizing the NAMHSA Board of Directors Forum multiple times per week, if not more during the busier months, for all communications. We strongly recommend compiling minutes daily during the month rather an all at once at the end of the month. While the position is a non-voting one, constructive opinions and discussion participation are always encouraged.

If you are interested in applying for the Recording Secretary position, please contact the NAMHSA President, Robin Roberts, at president@namhsa.org.

07/04/2020 - Do you normally submit Merit Award applications at Breyerfest?

Application limit lifted for basic Merit Awards in July

Every year during North American Nationals and Breyerfest, we lift the application limit for the basic Merit Awards for applications dropped off to us during the events. Since Breyerfest is going virtual and NAN has been cancelled until next year, we'd like to continue this fantastic promotion, but with a new twist.
Typically when applying for basic Merit Awards (no certificate or plaque), applicants are limited to only ten award applications every sixty days. This year, we are revising the promotion dates and extending it through the month of July. The $1 per application fee will stay the same. Merit Awards that will be receiving plaques or certificates have no change in the fees, and you can still send in as many as you wish.
This year as an added bonus, there will be a contest for everyone who submits Merit Award applications in the month of July. Regardless of the type of award - basic, certificate or plaque, everyone who participates in the Merit Award program for the month of July will be entered. The lucky winner will be awarded a free Merit Award plaque for the model of their choice! ($25 value.)
For more information on the Merit Award program, including all levels of awards offered, click here. The Merit Award Application itself is available here. If you have questions or need help with the application process, please contact Mary Ann Snyder at merit-awards@namhsa.org.

Candidates need to be aware that the job requires frequent communication between the members in their region and the Board, and requires making the time and commitment to QUICKLY respond to Board work and issues. Board members assume ultimate responsibility for running NAMHSA and assuring a quality NAN. Daily Internet accessibility is required, as the NAMHSA Board is primarily an online forum entity. Have you always wanted to know how the world’s largest model horse hobby organization works from the inside? Do you have ideas about how to make the model horse showing world bigger and better? Do you have what it takes to represent your Region on the NAMHSA Board of Directors? If you have answered yes to these questions, then NAMHSA Wants YOU!
Current NAMHSA Showholders and Individual Members, it is time to nominate candidates for Regional Representative for Regions 2, 4, 6, 8, and 10. As a NAMHSA Showholder and Individual Member, it is your privilege and responsibility to nominate candidates for your region. You can nominate here.
The NAMHSA 2020-2022 Regional Representatives will take office at the public Annual Meeting in July 2020. Their term will be for two years, ending at NAN 2022. Showholders and Individual Members may nominate anyone for the office (including themselves), however, you MUST be certain the person you are nominating has confirmed they are willing to run for office. Current office holders (whose terms are expiring at the July 2020 public Annual Meeting) may be nominated again, provided they are willing to run for re-election.
