Your NAMHSA News for the period August 16-31, 2012 based on the minutes compiled by Jackie Arns-Rossi, Recording Secretary.

AUGUST 16
-Teresa Candelaria (Public Relations) posted draft PR announcements for approval.
-Stacy Faraci (R7 Representative) forwarded a post from N-D by Laura Pervier requesting the results of the NAN 2013 location voting.
-Discussion continued about penalizing show holders who do not turn in member show results. 

AUGUST 17
- Jackie Arns-Rossi (Recording Secretary) clarified the difference between BOD Minutes and NAMHSA News.
-Amy Peck (Show Membership Secretary) posted the newest list of approved NAMHSA member shows. A listing of all upcoming NAMHSA member shows with links and showholder contact information can be found in the NAMHSA webpages under "find a member show".
- Carmen Robertson (Treasurer) advised that the NAN judge and volunteer checks were in the mail. She also asked about posting a note to NAMHSA-Discussion about the checks, so people could look for them.

AUGUST 18
-- Discussion continued regarding releasing the specific voting results for the NAN 2013 location vote. 

AUGUST 19
-Jackie Arns-Rossi posted revised 8/1-8/15 minutes for approval. These were approved by Teresa Buzzell (President).
-Teresa Buzzell requested polls be created for the member show results format proposal and NAN card submission proposal.
-Teresa Buzzell requested discussion on extending the dates of validity for NAN cards. Discussion ensued.

AUGUST 20
--Tom Dean (R2 Representative) noted that changing the validity range of NAN cards would require a bylaws vote.
-Jackie Arns-Rossi created the requested polls.
-Teresa Buzzell advised that she had replied to an email from a hobbyist about the fantasy equine proposal.

AUGUST 23
-Jackie Arns-Rossi posted a reminder about three current polls for the BOD regarding member show results and handling incorrect/invalid cards submitted for NAN entry.
-Chris Wallbruch (R8 Representative) posted a concern from a member of her region that the results for the Equilocity Stone show had been lost and that cards from that show might be invalidated. Discussion ensued, with BOD members encouraging show entrants to try and recreate the results. Chris Wallbruch offered to personally contact Sandy Cord.
-Discussion occurred about a question posted by a hobbyist on NAMHSA-Discussion about how representatives went about finding out how their regions felt about issues the BOD voted on.

AUGUST 24
-Discussion about the NAN card qualification extension continued.
-Jackie Arns-Rossi closed the following polls early, as all votes were recorded:

POLL QUESTION: Should NAMHSA make the following change regarding NAN cards used to enter NAN: Entrants submitting incorrect or invalid NAN cards will not be allowed to make corrections and will not be refunded. Cards will be returned at packet pick up. Currently, nearly a third of entrants submit cards that are improperly filled out or otherwise invalid (not eligible for the current NAN). Replacing/correcting these cards takes a large amount of time and extra work for the Registrar and unnecessarily delays NAN entry processing.

POLL QUESTION: Should NAMHSA require that member show results include a list of entrants and a key to identifying them in the results, if entrant names are not used?

POLL QUESTION: Should NAMHSA require member shows to submit results in a searchable native electronic document such as Word, etc? This would allow searching documents more quickly, and save someone from scanning in handwritten results.

AUGUST 25
-Discussion continued about extending the qualification period on NAN cards.
-After some discussion about how to handle the missing 2012 Equilocity results, Stacy Faraci made an announcement to all the Regional Yahoogroups, NAMHSA-Discussion and Regional FaceBook groups advising entrants about the situation and directing them to the Stone company for more information. An email was also sent to the Stone company as well.
-Teresa Buzzell announced the creation of new NAMHSA social media and promotional sites.

AUGUST 26
-Teresa Buzzell advised that Pauline Entin (R3 Representative) would take on some of Teresa Candelaria’s (Public Relations) duties since there were multiple things the BOD was trying to get out and Teresa Candelaria was offline due to a move.
-Teresa Buzzell provided a list of pending Public Relations announcements.
-Eleanor Harvey (Parliamentarian) noted that the solicitation for NAN registrar had gone out.
-Pauline Entin (R3 and temporary acting Public Relations) posted a draft of the 2013 NAN location vote. Discussion ensued.

AUGUST 27
-Teresa Candelaria posted draft announcements to the board for approval.
-Teresa Candelaria forwarded an email from a party interested in the 2013 Registrar position asking if it would be possible to show at NAN at the same time. It was confirmed that showing is not allowed for the Registrar.

AUGUST 28
-- Discussion continued about how to handle the Equilocity results. In general, BOD members felt that it was not appropriate for NAMHSA to try and re-create these results for Stone, and it was the company’s responsibility to turn them in.
-- Beth Lamm (Merit Awards Coordinator) provided an update on the Merit Awards program. Almost 400 applications were turned in at Breyerfest, and she is slowly working through them. She is hoping to have them all processed by Labor Day.

AUGUST 30
-- Teresa Buzzell requested a revision of the August 1-15 News as submitted by Teresa Candelaria.

AUGUST 31
-- Lindsey Hall (Vice President) approved the July financial report.
-- Carmen Robertson (Treasurer) uploaded the July financial report to the files section of the NAMHSA yahoogroups site. Quarterly financial reports are published on the NAMHSA website (see financial statements).
